Custom Wire-Edge Shade Sail – Early Childhood Centre, Massey

This custom wire-edge shade sail was designed and installed for an early childhood education centre in Massey, West Auckland, creating a safe and comfortable outdoor play environment while providing excellent protection from New Zealand’s harsh UV conditions.

The six-corner sail features a 29-metre perimeter and was individually engineered to maximise shade coverage across the outdoor learning and play area. Manufactured from premium Com95 shade fabric, the sail blocks 91–95% of harmful UV rays while offering exceptional durability, colour stability, and resistance to stains and dirt—making it ideal for high-use educational environments.

The perimeter is reinforced with a stainless steel wire edge and secured using marine-grade 316 stainless steel hardware, ensuring long-term structural performance and corrosion resistance.

The installation includes two heavy-duty 165 mm galvanised round steel posts, hydrovac excavated and concreted into the ground to minimise disruption to existing services while providing a secure foundation.
