Designed and installed two custom architectural shade sails to create durable, high-performance sun protection with a clean modern finish. The project included one 25 m perimeter four-corner sail and one larger 30 m perimeter six-corner sail, both incorporating twin kissing points to achieve sharper tension lines and a more dynamic architectural shape.
The sails were fabricated using Shadetec 320 Grey, a premium-grade commercial shade fabric chosen for its strength, durability, and refined appearance. The fabric provides between 91%–95% UV protection while maintaining airflow and light penetration, making the space cooler and more comfortable without feeling enclosed. Its consistent colour tone and texture gave the installation a clean, high-end finish, while the stain and grime-resistant coating helps maintain its appearance over time.
To ensure long-term performance, all seams were stitched using PTFE sewing thread, designed to last the lifetime of the fabric without deteriorating, bursting, or weakening under constant UV exposure and changing weather conditions. The sails were tensioned using polished marine-grade 316 stainless steel hardware, including D-shackles and turnbuckles, providing maximum corrosion resistance and a sharp finished look.
Structural support was achieved using two 168 mm galvanised steel posts concreted into the ground, creating a strong foundation capable of handling high tension loads while keeping the overall appearance minimal and uncluttered. The completed installation delivers practical all-day shade while also acting as a standout architectural feature within the outdoor space.
