Completed a large-scale custom shade sail installation in Mairangi Bay Primary School using Monotec 370 in Bundena Blue, creating a durable and visually striking outdoor shade solution designed for long-term performance. Manufactured in Australia, Monotec 370 is one of the strongest commercial shade mesh fabrics available and was selected for its ability to span larger areas while maintaining excellent tension and appearance over time.
The extra-wide 6.5 m fabric helped minimise visible seams, giving the finished sail a much cleaner and more architectural look. Along with offering up to 90% UV shade protection, the fabric is stain, dirt, and grime resistant, making it ideal for demanding outdoor environments while remaining low maintenance. Its deep Bundena Blue colour added a bold visual feature to the space and complemented the surrounding landscape and architecture.
The structure was supported by four galvanised round steel posts, each 165 mm diameter and extending 3.5 m above ground, with all posts concreted into the ground to provide the strength required for the sail loads. Installation also included the use of a Hiab truck and hydro excavation to safely position the posts and minimise disruption on site.
All sail connections were completed using polished marine-grade 316 stainless steel hardware, including D-shackles and turnbuckles for maximum corrosion resistance and long-term reliability in outdoor conditions. The completed installation delivers high-performance shade coverage with a clean, modern finish built to withstand years of exposure to the elements.
