This bespoke outdoor shade installation in Grey Lynn was designed to deliver elegant all-weather protection while enhancing the functionality and atmosphere of the home’s outdoor entertaining area. Combining premium waterproof fabric with a custom-engineered support structure, the project achieves a refined architectural look with practical everyday usability.
The system spans 4590mm in length with a 3675mm shade width, creating generous overhead coverage while maintaining an open and airy feel. The shade operates across a three-wire configuration — two outer cables and one central cable — ensuring smooth support and consistent fabric tension across the span.
To complement the property’s layout, the installation also included two custom powder coated aluminium posts, forming part of a tailored frame system engineered specifically for the site. The custom structure provides both strength and visual integration with the surrounding architecture.
The shade itself was manufactured using premium Serge Ferrari Lounge W96 Proof waterproof fabric in a timeless Off White finish. Designed for outdoor living applications, the fabric offers excellent durability, weather resistance, and a soft contemporary appearance suitable for modern residential spaces.
A subtle shallow billow profile was incorporated into the design, allowing the fabric to drape elegantly approximately 140mm below the wire cables when extended, adding softness and architectural character to the installation.
For flexible operation, the system was fitted with a pole retraction kit, allowing the shade to be easily extended or retracted as required depending on weather conditions and seasonal use.
