We recently worked with Next Gen Club in Auckland to create a custom-made waterproof shade sail for the area next to the ASB Tennis Arena. The goal was to provide reliable shade and shelter all year round – something that looks great and stands up to the elements.
The sail was made from Serge Ferrari Soltis 502 PVC, a high-quality fabric that’s waterproof, fire-rated, and offers excellent UV protection (up to 99%). It’s backed by a 10-year warranty and designed to perform in tough outdoor conditions.
This design features a wire edge, meaning the sail is tensioned with a stainless steel cable around the perimeter, making it highly durable and flexible—especially useful for more exposed spots. We used marine-grade stainless steel fittings throughout, including turnbuckles and D-shackles, for a clean, polished look that resists rust and lasts for years.
The sail is sewn with PTFE thread, which is built to last as long as the fabric itself. It won’t weaken or break down over time, even with constant sun and rain exposure.
To support the sail, we installed a galvanised steel post, concreted into the ground, along with a 7-metre white aluminium track to secure one side of the sail.
