This stylish retractable awning installation on Waiheke Island was designed to provide flexible shade protection while complementing the home’s contemporary coastal aesthetic. Combining premium European-inspired design with durable outdoor materials, the awning delivers both practicality and refined visual appeal for year-round outdoor living.
The project features an Ellipse Monobloc retractable awning measuring 2700mm wide with a 2000mm projection, creating comfortable shade coverage while maintaining a compact and streamlined appearance when retracted.
Finished in Silver Pearl, the hardware provides a clean modern look that pairs beautifully with the surrounding architecture and coastal environment. The awning was installed using a wall face-fixed configuration, ensuring secure integration with the building structure while maximising usable outdoor space beneath.
For the fabric selection, premium Docril acrylic canvas – 019 was chosen for its exceptional durability, UV resistance, and long-lasting colour performance. Designed specifically for demanding outdoor conditions, Docril fabric maintains its appearance over time while delivering reliable sun protection and comfort.
The awning also incorporates a protective hood, helping shield the fabric and operating components from the elements when retracted — particularly beneficial in coastal environments such as Waiheke Island.
Operation is smooth and reliable via a manual crank system with right-hand drive orientation, offering easy day-to-day usability without the need for electrical components.
